BMW Motorrad Malaysia Introduces the New BMW F 900 R and BMW F 900 XR.

BMW Motorrad Malaysia recently unveiled a new line-up of premium motorcycles - the New BMW F 900 R and BMW F 900 XR, strengthening their line-up of popular mid-range motorcycles in the Roadster and Adventure segments.

Taking the road less travelled with the New BMW F 900 R and BMW F 900 XR
Both the New BMW F 900 R and BMW F 900 XR offer sporty riding fun, straightforward handling and a unique range of equipment options to suit every rider.

The New BMW F 900 R arrives in Style Sport with a particularly sporty, active seating position. Available in San Marino Blue metallic and Style Sport in Hockenheim Silver metallic/Racing Red, the New BMW F 900 R conveys a sense of freedom and modernity unlike any other Roadster. The passenger seat cover available only with Style Sport emphasises the sporty character of the New BMW F 900 R.

The New BMW F 900 XR arrives in Style Exclusive; Galvanic Gold metallic with central tank cover and radiator cover in Granite Grey Metallic Matt offering, along with an impressively active yet relaxed riding position for touring and travelling. The New BMW F 900 XR also features hand guards from the Original BMW Motorrad Accessories for a sportier appearance. The model is equipped with an adjustable windshield that combines a sporty look with sound rider protection. Exclusive to the New BMW F 900 XR as well are the centre stand and suitcase holder.

Both the New BMW F 900 R and BMW F 900 XR will make use of a steel bridge frame that integrates the engine as a load-bearing element and a fuel tank that is now back in its classic position in front of the rider. Front wheel control is taken care of by an upside-down telescopic fork, while the rear wheel is guided by a double-sided swinging arm with central suspension strut. The front spring travel is 135 mm for the New BMW F 900 R and 170 mm for the New BMW F 900 XR, while the rear is 142 mm for the New BMW F 900 R and 172 mm for the New BMW F 900 XR.

The light, plastic-welded fuel tanks with a capacity of 13 litres for the New BMW F 900 R and 15.5 litres for the New BMW F 900 XR are a first in motorcycle construction. The bolt-on steel rear frame has also been newly developed for the New BMW F 900 R and BMW F 900 XR in order to create a visually short and slim rear. While the New BMW F 900 R is a dynamic roadster focusing on sporty use and therefore shorter spring travel, the New BMW F 900 XR – with its somewhat longer spring travel – offers a noticeable increase in comfort and therefore an even wider range of potential uses.

For greater clarity on the road, state-of-the-art LED technology headlights are affixed as standard. The New BMW F 900 R will come with a single headlight while the New BMW F 900 XR will feature double headlights. Both feature optimised low beam and high beam.  For enhanced safety at night, the Adaptive Cornering Light – which is unique in the mid-range, is offered as an optional extra ex works with the Headlight Pro.

Powerful propulsion with a newly-reengineered engine.
Powering the New BMW F 900 R and BMW F 900 XR is the further developed two-cylinder in-line engine that was first introduced in 2018 with the BMW F 850 GS; now with 77 kW (105 hp) at 8,750 rpm, and 92 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine also offers more than 87 Nm torque in the relevant lower speed range from 4,500 to 8,500 rpm. The increase in performance and the fuller torque are achieved by increasing the capacity to 895 cc (previously 853 cc) by enlarging the cylinder bore.

With a compression of 13.1:1, a crankshaft with 90-degree offset crankpins and an ignition distance of 270/450 degrees – plus a new underfloor silencer system, the engine propels forward with a particularly emotional sound. A higher level of running smoothness is also offered with the two opposed counterweight shafts in front of and behind the crankshaft.

In addition to the standard anti-hopping clutch, the New BMW F 900 R and BMW F 900 XR can be equipped with engine drag torque control (MSR) for the first time. The Shift Assistant Pro is also offered as an optional extra for the new motorcycles, enabling the 6-speed transmission to be shifted up and down quickly without clutch actuation.

Both motorcycles are equipped with two standard riding modes, “Rain” and “Road” to enable rider adaptability. Automatic Stability Control (ASC) which can be easily disengaged is also available as standard. “Riding Modes Pro” is available an ex works option, offering additional riding modes such as “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro”, along with the Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), banking-capable ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) and the new engine drag torque control (MSR).

Unrivalled information technology with BMW Motorrad Connectivity.
The two motorcycles now feature “Connectivity” as a standard equipment with a multifunctional instrument cluster and a large 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen. With the standard BMW Motorrad Multi-Controller on the left handlebar, riders can access vehicle and connectivity functions swiftly and conveniently. The BMW Motorrad Connectivity is also a unique feature in the mid-range, offering the ability to conveniently talk on the phone, listen to music or navigate while riding.
