Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET), a subsidiary of PROTON, strengthened its strategic collaboration with TVETMARA through a Letter of Intent (LOI), paving the way for a new generation of skilled and industry-ready electric vehicle (EV) talent in Malaysia.
The collaboration will expand EV technical training, hands-on industry exposure and talent development, while also introducing the inaugural e.MAS Electrified Excellence Competition, a specialised aftersales skills competition for EV Technicians and Service Advisors.
The LOI was signed by Mr Zhang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET, and En. Shabudin bin Said, Director of TVETMARA Masjid Tanah, marking a shared commitment to strengthen industry-academia collaboration in EV technical education and workforce development.
Through the LOI, both parties will explore opportunities to develop and enhance EV-specific technical training programmes aligned with industry requirements. The collaboration comes at a time of strong growth for Proton e.MAS, with more than 6,000 Proton e.MAS vehicles registered as of 31 August 2026. As the number of electrified vehicles on Malaysian roads continues to grow, the development of a skilled and capable EV aftersales workforce will be increasingly important in supporting customers and maintaining high standards of service quality.
Preparing Malaysia’s Next Generation of EV Technicians
The collaboration will also create opportunities for hands-on training, on-the-job training (OJT), internships, apprenticeships and technical exposure, allowing students to build competencies that are directly relevant to EV aftersales operations. In the longer term, the initiative aims to support a smoother transition from TVET education to industry training and, ultimately, towards becoming certified EV technicians.
Mr Zhang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET, said the collaboration is about ensuring Malaysia’s talent pool keeps pace with the rapid growth of EV adoption. “As more Malaysians make the shift to EVs, we also need to make sure we have the right people with the right skills to support them. For us, this is more than just teaching students about EV technology. It is about giving them real hands-on experience, building their confidence and preparing them for what the industry needs,” said Mr Zhang.
“TVET institutions have an important role to play in preparing the next generation of technical talent. By working closely with TVETMARA, we can bring industry knowledge and requirements closer to the classroom, giving students a clearer pathway from learning and hands-on experience to a career in the EV industry. Ultimately, we want to help build a stronger and more sustainable aftersales workforce for Malaysia,” he added.
Driving Excellence in EV Aftersales
As part of the collaboration, TVETMARA Masjid Tanah has also agreed to jointly organise the inaugural e.MAS Electrified Excellence Competition, providing a platform for EV Technicians and Service Advisors to demonstrate their technical knowledge, practical skills and presentation capabilities in EV technology.
The competition is intended to strengthen technical competencies while encouraging continuous learning and professional development among those involved in EV aftersales operations. It also provides an opportunity to identify and nurture emerging technical talent as Malaysia moves towards wider electrified mobility adoption.
A capable aftersales workforce is essential in building customer confidence, maintaining service quality and supporting the long-term adoption of EVs. By strengthening local technical capabilities, the PRO-NET–TVETMARA collaboration contributes to the development of a more robust EV ecosystem and supports Malaysia’s transition towards an electrified automotive future.
