TotalEnergies Malaysia and ARUS Academy Partner to Launch Safe Mobility Program in Malaysian Schools

TotalEnergies Malaysia and ARUS Academy  announced a joint collaboration to roll out the VIA Safe Mobility Malaysia 2023 program aimed at promoting safe mobility and road safety awareness among Malaysian school students and their communities.

Targeted for students in primary and secondary schools across Malaysia, the program is designed to educate and empower the next generation of young road safety ambassadors and road users raising awareness on road safety rules, safe walking behavior and how to use road infrastructure safely as a pedestrian. It also focuses on the Malaysia-specific context of road safety while embedding 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, STEM, and critical thinking to enable students to learn, take charge, and advocate for safer routes by walking or going to school.

At the official launch of the program, Jennifer Li, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Malaysia expressed enthusiasm about the joint collaboration and shared that the VIA Safe Mobility Malaysia program represents a shared commitment by TotalEnergies Malaysia and ARUS Academy to contribute to the safety and well-being of the community.

"TotalEnergies Malaysia is committed to raising awareness on road safety around the schools. While we are an energy company, we are also a major player in road activities. We are excited to partner with ARUS Academy to launch the VIA Safe Mobility Malaysia program, which aligns with our strong focus in energising lives and communities. We believe that education and awareness are key to reducing road accidents and promoting safe mobility, aligning with the Malaysia Road Safety Plan 2022-2030 by the Ministry of Transport to strengthen the culture and values and road safety among children and youth."

This program has been deployed in 89 schools across Malaysia, with 283 teachers trained and reaching 26,125 children aged from 10 to 16 years old since its rollout in July 2022. The program features a digital native-friendly online web-based learning structure with a capstone project at the end, and aims to reach 220 schools across the country.

ARUS Academy, a prominent education and training institution, is equally excited about the collaboration. Felicia Yoon, Co-Founder of ARUS Academy said, "We are honoured to work with TotalEnergies Malaysia on this important initiative in fostering road safety awareness amongst the youth in Malaysia. The VIA Safe Mobility Malaysia program will provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to be responsible road users, ultimately contributing to safer roads in Malaysia. We hope to reach as many students as possible across the country through this program.’’

The VIA Safe Mobility Program is also rolled out globally through the TotalEnergies Foundation. The deployment is now picking up speed and the milestone of 500,000 has just been reached. 40 countries across the five continents have deployed the program in 1,500 schools and youth centers, in partnership with about 40 local NGOs globally.

The official launch of the VIA Safe Mobility Malaysia 2023 program was also attended by representatives from Sekolah Kebangsaan Desa Pandan and Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Jalil. Both schools currently participate in the program.
